PSMS can track and record unusual activity with event logging and alarming tools. This provision allows for early detection and announcement of problems before a critical failure takes place.
Changes in system information are displayed graphically and logged. The calculated results are compared with metered parameters to provide pop-up alarms for equipment with missing and out-of-range data.
- Annunciate local & system-wide alarms & warnings
- based on equipment ratings
- Alarm priority setting & event triggering
- Annunciate out-of-range measurements
- Graphical, tabulated, & audible annunciation
- Predict abnormal conditions & critical failures
While monitoring the electrical system, PSMS can provide alarms to initiate operator response to emergency conditions. User-programmable alarm levels are available and can be configured to announce conditions not normally detected by the system annunciator. For operator attention, alarm annunciation can be customized for message, help, remedy, color, and sound.

Energy usage and cost analysis features provide energy consumption and cost information for individual power system components or for the entire system. ETAP can track energy related costs based on user-definable cost functions. The cost/profit analysis and production/consumption billing are reported for generators and power exchanges per instantaneous value for one hour.
These tools provide online cost and usage comparison against on-site generation, power exchange allocation, and spinning reserves while providing a power consumption and pricing profiles for reporting purposes.
- Predict system-wide energy usage & cost
- User-definable cost functions & heat rates
- Track energy related costs
- Negotiate better energy rates
- Avoid unnecessary peak demands & penalties
- Implement cost savings programs
- Make better decisions on generation opportunities
- Improve energy usage of existing plant facilities
- Cost/profit analysis report
- Production/consumption billing
